The project began with the intention of simply extending the rear of the house to create a larger kitchen-diner space. However, upon beginning the work, it became evident that the old farmhouse required more comprehensive attention. The decision was made to strip many of the rooms back to their original walls, treating them for damp and ensuring a solid foundation for future work. The entire downstairs area was renewed with new plasterboard and a skim finish, resulting in a high-quality, modern finish that preserved the farmhouse’s charm while enhancing its functionality.
The Development
In addition to the rear kitchen-diner extension, a second extension was added to the side of the house. This new space enlarged the rear lounge and included a downstairs shower room and a utility room with a convenient side door, enhancing the layout and providing essential modern amenities. The development also included the construction of a new double garage, allowing for more storage and parking space. A complete rewire of the house was carried out, alongside the installation of a new boiler, ensuring the home was not only aesthetically pleasing but also energy-efficient and up-to-date with modern standards.
The Result
The result of the £300k investment was a beautifully renovated farmhouse that blended contemporary upgrades with traditional features. The comprehensive work not only transformed the living spaces into open, modern areas but also addressed structural concerns and introduced high-end features. The new patio and landscaping further enhanced the property’s curb appeal and outdoor living potential. Ultimately, the project delivered a comfortable, energy-efficient home with all the luxury and practicality expected of a modern family residence, fully respecting the original character of the farmhouse.
